Send your virology questions and comments to twiv@microbe.tv
I really appreciate the group at Twiv specially Prof. Racaniello by educating us free of cost!. I am been listening and learning from the virology course. Great work. I Ineed some clarification about the spread of COVID19.
It has been a ongoing debate about the COVID19 infection. There are studies showing the virus is found on surfaces like door knobs, glass surface, personal items and many more. However, out of 4.5million cases, none has been attributed to spread via fomite like food item, daily use items, so why scientists and media are saying that the virus can spread with fomite? The public is all scared that the virus can spread by touching any surface in grocery store and workplace. The epidemiology community and scientists are well familiar with finding disease outbreak via food-born pathogen, water-born pathogen and droplets. The question is:
Is there any evidence that out of 4.5 million infected cases, even one was attributed to spread via food, water or fomites?
I would love to hear the discussion on twiv.
Sincerely,
Ejaz Khan, MD
Re using your elbow to perform potentially contaminating tasks: You famously can’t lick your elbow (nor touch your face with it). In that sense using the elbow to open doors (not possible with US-style doorknobs, sorry) is a good idea.
You are at least one more transfer operation away from potential infection.
People,
Hope you are planning a session on the modern vaccine.
PAUL RABINOW
After hearing this from the letter from Sweden; “The patient in that last article was not only refused ICU care, but wasn’t even given morphine to ease the pain of her passing. During the time many of these accusations were made, Sweden’s Karolinska Hospital had an ICU survival rate of 80%, far above the international average, which gives support to the accusations that elderly and infirm were denied treatment.”
This made me thing that someone there thought the movie Midsommar was a documentary on how to deal with the older population (note: it is a scary movie that produces nightmares).
We are retired, so are literally living off of our savings, which are being professionally managed. The financial management company has been holding online webinars where they discuss the market in this pandemic. They gave very good information on the virus and science (I think one of them listens to your many many many podcasts on this subject). Included were how many countries had different policies, and the effect on their economies. Since Sweden is part of the global economy, it was performing pretty much the same as its neighbors. So no advantage.
“This made me thing that” should be “This made me think that”
And the “g” key is no where near the “k” key. Le sigh.
I can’t say I’m crazy about the image accompanying this episode. When I paste a link to it on social media it looks like an advertisement for glasses or a cooking demonstration.
.
CJR .could a nasal spray containing a Covid 19 spike protein denaturing agent;
harmless to a potential victim;help in the containment of this virus by inhibiting
and /or even preventing invasion of the host cell to possibly give the immune system of the victim some valuable time in which to begin the manufacture antibodies to
challenge this virus and weaken its infestability
Best wishes to all.
