    Respected TWiV Chiefs,
Thanks for responding on-air way back ~2012-13 re: my sci-science question about mosquitoes.
My family listens to the show and we gave you a **bump in some speculation to a WSJ YouTube investigation, and wondered if you had any speculations from the esteemed panel of TWiV, TWiP, or any of the other great podcasts? Thank you,
    Et Carter

I have always heard that activist made plans to take- down tobacco companies that were manufacturing paper-filered smoking (traditional burning/smoldering such as native Americans have used for time untold) cigarettes. My understanding was that water-vapor inhalation via some type of filter was the plan for “vaping”. My brother thought vaping was a way for people to quit the smoking tobacco that seems because people in the US have made it socially unacceptable with a strong element of societal scorn attached. (unlike Reservations, UK, EU, etc…) The medical word “emphysema” is the old condition every person knows occurs when a person smokes too much too long. But, I haven’t heard two experts agree on anything that “causes” lung cancer aside from the common irritation inhalants have on lung tissue thus making tissues susceptible to various types of cell destruction.
However, most people who buy fruity-smelling small cigars at the Citgo convenience-mart do so to later pack them with narcotic-weed and smoke it in public. I don’t take narcotics ( and for crying out loud, I wouldn’t tell anyone if I did) but illegal drug dealers are outside nearly every Citgo-type convenience mart 365 days a year (holidays included) and if I were to speculate: the dope-man makes more money the more he steps on his product with impure, cheap filler-junk.
Now to my main points: my two concerns with vaping. First guess would be something between the heating element and the “filter” has become “home” to a virulent flesh-eating bacteria or one of it’s many cousins that love dark, damp places to colonizes and do what bacteria do **(listen to any episode of TWiP, TWiV (This Week in Parasitism and /or Virology with Vincent Racaniello at Microbe TV. Excellent for many cool and gory stories of such things) . My second guess is that this has something to do with whatever illegal drug-dealers use to cut their marijuana with (and the final product kids are lacing their vape with). These dudes are known to use everything from draino to rat-poison in whatever the product of the decade is, and my second guess is kids love vaping for reasons that opioid-pill users change to the needle: inhalants via vaping might have become hyped among daily addicts to boost potency like a water bong over paper doobies. Conclusion: Who knows what these two things would do to the lungs of youngsters when mass=produced? I’m just a young woman (and her brother) online doing research. Perhaps it’s this new delivery method that has enabled a substance *(yet to be identified) to infect/colonize the delicate lung-tissue? *this seems a very important element to the story
P.S. Thanks to several grown-up family members who either work in or have retired from law enforcement and the valuable knowledge of stuff that makes me look at them differently now. You guys are like walking, talking noir crime novels of info and crazy names used in drug-culture.

In 1974 I lost my cousin Pam, age 20 to EEE.
On a lighter note, the Baltimore and Annapolis rail trail features a planet walk that includes Pluto.

  3. Dear Hosts of the TWIV podcast,
Would you please consider sharing the text of e-mails & comments discussed at the beginning of your episodes? Sometimes it’s hard to listen and understand everything you are reading. I was particularly interested in Yenz (sorry if its misspelled) quasispecies e-mail. There were alot of interesting and important informations and it was hard for me to catch on Alan’s reading. It is a complexe subject and I am not a native english speaker.
    Thank you,
    Best,
    Amal
