Disagree with Vincent and Alan that the entire story of public health is waiting and then catching up. The millions of dollars spent by NIH on preparatory vaccine development work after SC1 to develop prototype vaccines for what appeared to be an extinct virus was critical for the rapid development of an SC2 vaccine. The millions of international government spending in developing influenza surveillance networks and genomic capabilities allowed for the unprecendented capability to track SC2 viral variants in real time. Please give credit where credit is due.
