I prefer an intermediate approach; in my course I spend the first
two-thirds on principles, and the last third I spend on detailed
profiles of specific examples. For example; polio or retroviruses
infectious cycles are really compelling stories, and students can lose
the story if for every step in the cycle there are myriad examples from
other groups. For any virus type, the method of transcription and
replication (and for +RNA viruses, translation) are intimately
connected. I hate for students not to get that for at least a few
representatives.
Vincent – I use Stitcher on iPhone 4 to listen to your podcasts. The episode 245 podcast is only one minute long. It cuts out just after the show intro. Please fix!
Disregard. It’s a Stitcher problem. They haven’t fixed it, but you shouldn’t have to deal with their software issue.
I love the format of your regular episodes, but this was a great idea. I doubt I’ll ever be published in such an epic text, yet I still feel it’s good to know the process.
