    DENGE- may come from the Swahili word dinga, dyenga or denga, “sudden attack”. According to an article in the Glasgow Medical Journal in september 1881 written by Dr. Christie. The full name of the disease in Zanzibar (Tanzania) was ” ka dinga pepo” (ka-“a kind of”, dinga “sudden attack” and pepo “evil spirit or plague”). Around 1830 the word dinga would have been treated as dengue.
