In response to a question “Could the diabetes epidemic be
caused by a virus, or is that just lazy thinking?” The following thought
occurred. Several examples such as Coxsackie
and Adenovirus are known for their interactions. Adv36, more known for its link
to obesity can serve as proof of concept. Adv36 has potential effects in enhancing
    differentiation of preadipocytes. The mechanism
was traced to viral RNA expression pattern by M Rathod etal. Another paper by Wang etal demonstrated
adv36 infectionincreases glucose uptake in cells via Ras-activated PI
3-kinase pathway in an insulin-independent manner. Of
course, conditions such as obesity, diabetes or obesity have to be considered
under environmental and genetic influence also. Antiviral is not advocated for
    diabetes or obesity.
I had blogged about it earlier. http://varuncnmicro.blogspot.in/2012/10/adenovirus-36-said-you-are-obese.html
